Across Disciplines Against Inequality: The CONOS Project Opens Up Key Issues of Our Time
An expert workshop focused on research into social inequalities took place at Prague University of Economics and Business on 17 June as part of the international CONOS project (Center for Issues of Inequality and Open Society). The project brings together experts from law, economics, psychology and political science, and seeks answers to key questions facing contemporary society, particularly in the context of technological change, digitalisation and their impact on justice and equal opportunities.
The project involves leading Czech research institutions, including Prague University of Economics and Business, Charles University and Masaryk University. Its aim is to create an interdisciplinary research hub that connects experts across fields and contributes to a better understanding of current societal challenges.
VŠE is represented in the project by a team of experts in economics and the social sciences, who contribute to both research activities and the development of international cooperation. The project at VŠE is led by Štěpán Bahník: “VŠE’s involvement in the CONOS project enables us to develop research capacities at the university and actively contribute to research on topics that have a fundamental impact on the functioning of modern society.”
The expert workshop provided researchers with a space to share interim results and discuss them with members of the partner institutions. Such meetings are an important part of the research process, enabling the development of cooperation, the gathering of feedback and the further direction of the project.
In the long term, the CONOS project focuses on analysing inequalities in various areas of life, including access to justice, the functioning of public administration and the impact of technological innovation on society. The project also supports young researchers and the development of doctoral studies, thereby contributing to the long-term strengthening of research capacity at the participating institutions.
