Regional Studies

Under the leadership of prof. Martin Pelucha, an excellent research team has long focused on the issue of theoretical systemization of territorial cohesion, which is the basis for the formation of regional policy and EU Rural Policy. The team’s experience to date builds on topics related to the critical evaluation of the position of EU Rural Policy instruments within the EU´s Common Agricultural Policy.

In recent years, the team has focused on assessing trends in the impact of digitization in the territory and the formation of socio-economic relations between urban and rural areas, which has a significant impact on the formation of EU cohesion policy. Research activities also include aspects of socio-economic transformation of coal regions in theoretical and applied contexts (Just Transition Mechanism, digitalization processes, 21st century labour market transformations, etc.).

Main directions of the research

  • Regional development, territorial cohesion and urban-rural agenda (incl. digital divide);
  • EU Cohesion policy evaluation (incl. Just Transition process);
  • Theoretical and practical perspective of EU Rural Policy instruments within the EU´s Common Agricultural Policy.
