From research: Research efficiency in higher education

Is there a correlation between research efficiency in higher education and good governance? A paper published by dr. V. HOLÝ in Operations Research Perspectives demonstrating an alternative approach in data envelopment analysis (DEA) – a method widely used in operations research – used data from research in higher education institutions to apply the alternative approach on.

DEA is a non-parametric method used to measure the relative efficiency of decision-making units that convert inputs into outputs. The method has been widely applied in the fields of agriculture, education, energy, finance, government, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, sport, and transportation. Results show that the Voice and Accountability variable, one of the indicators of good governance, has a positive and significant impact on research efficiency.

Used datasets were composed of number of publications, citations and researchers and R&D expenditure across 27 EU countries between the years 2005 and 2020. The Voice and Accountability indicator consists of participation in selecting the government, freedom of expression, freedom of association and freedom of media.

Results further suggest that the Political Stability, Regulatory Quality, Rule of Law, and Control of Corruption indicators do not significantly correlate with research efficiency. Read further at: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2214716024000101?via%3Dihub
