From research: Factors influencing the success of EU presidency
What factors influence the success of EU presidency? Holding the presidency in the Council of the EU can be member state’s powerful influence tool. In a paper published by dr. K KOČÍ and dr. J. ANTAL in the JCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies, analysis which external (input) factors impact successful implementation of the EU presidency using findings from current research as well as data from four presidencies is carried out.
The authors argue, on the basis of Austrian, Finnish, Slovakian and Czech presidencies, that success of a presidency may be interpreted as apparent, however, its real extent and nature vary. The presidency is a result of various factors, such as unforeseen crises, ability to act & react or overall crisis directly becoming preparations’ part and affecting activities within the presidency.
The paper attempts to understand the conceptualization of the EU presidency and to fill a gap in a systematic analysis of the presiding country’s performance. Read further about how doing the same can yield different results at: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jcms.13646
