From research: Differences in preferred leader behaviour in Bohemia and Moravia
Can cultural differences explain variations in leadership preferences and what is the impact of other factors? In a paper published in the journal Cross-Cultural Research Daniela Pauknerová and her team, on behalf of VŠE, examined these questions using the Leader Behaviour Description Questionnaire, version XII (LBDQXII questionnaire).
The study explores leadership culture in the two key historical regions Bohemia and Moravia and how their differences impact preferred leadership styles. The data of 389 participants were collected during the spring of 2023 electronically. The key variables of interest were region of residence, age, gender, education and type of organization.
Findings revealed notable differences in leadership preferences in Bohemia and Moravia. In Bohemia the employees seek leaders to be friendly and supportive, while being decisive and effectively representing the team. In Moravia, a more paternalistic leadership style may be favoured due to cultural and historical context.
