1st GOBLIN Plenary Meeting Successfully Held at VŠE

In February, we were delighted to host the 1st GOBLIN Plenary Meeting at the Prague University of Economics and Business. The event brought together international experts to discuss cutting-edge topics in knowledge graphs, embeddings and more.

The plenary meeting was opened by a welcome address by VSE’s prof. Vojtěch Svátek with a speech introducing the VSE’s Data Science and Explainable AI group and the wider Prague knowledge graph community.

Highly relevant to research done at VSE was the Knowledge Graphs Technologies session, chaired by Milan Dojchinovski (InfAI/DBpedia Association), which featured insightful talks from prominent speakers:

  • Kathrin Dentler (eccenca GmbH) shared insights on “20 Years of Knowledge Graphs”
  • Jan-Christoph Kalo (University of Amsterdam) presented on “LLMs and Knowledge Graphs – A Promising Symbiosis”

About the GOBLIN Project

The ultimate goal of the GOBLIN Action (Global Network on Large-Scale, Cross-domain and Multilingual Open Knowledge Graphs) is to increase and enhance the public open knowledge available in Europe and beyond. The project aims to provide a large-scale, high-quality, cross-domain, and multilingual knowledge graph technology that is freely available for use, reuse, and redistribution.

This project covers most European countries, but also includes countries outside Europe. One of the two Management Committee members for Czechia is Dr. Tomáš Kliegr from VŠE. The GOBLIN network brings together people and communities interested in knowledge graph technologies to collaborate on topics such as:

  • Knowledge Graph Engineering
  • Knowledge Graph Management
  • Knowledge Graph Utilization

By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the project seeks to consolidate research results and create a unified effort towards open knowledge graphs.

Why GOBLIN Matters: Aligning Research and Strengthening Collaborations Across Sectors

According to the Action coordinator, Dr. Dojchinovski: „The purpose of this initiative is to align and consolidate research results on open knowledge graphs, strengthening the links between scientific communities, public institutions and industrial stakeholders. The outcome will be a comprehensive, open, multilingual, and structured knowledge resource that can benefit various sectors, including research, industry, and public service.”

Such resources have the potential to drive the creation of innovative businesses and services that deliver both social and commercial value. The GOBLIN Action is designed to serve both scientific communities and public and industrial stakeholders who are working on open knowledge graph solutions. This includes domains such as:

  • Cultural Heritage
  • Food and Agriculture
  • Life Sciences
  • News and Media

The GOBLIN network is composed of a diverse group of researchers and innovators affiliated with academic institutes, enterprises, and open knowledge networks. These organizations bring complementary expertise in knowledge technologies and are dedicated to advancing open knowledge and collaborative research.
