What awaits the participants, why is this event valuable for academics and students of the Prague University of Economics and Business, and what role does VŠE play? Read on to find out.

A Gathering of Economists from the Czech Republic and Abroad: A Chance for VŠE Staff and Students

The biennial CES conference, which will take place on November 29–30, is a meeting point for economists from various universities,” explains the chairman of the conference organizing committee, Professor Jakub Fischer, Ph.D. For participants, this event is an opportunity to attend high-quality professional presentations and meet colleagues from economics faculties across the Czech Republic and abroad. VŠE staff and students can take advantage of this chance to make new connections and draw inspiration from the latest economic research right on their campus.

Program and Awards for Leading Economists and Young Talents

Although the program is not yet finalized, the organizers can already outline the key features of the conference. The plenary sessions will include prominent keynote speeches, the presentation of the CES Award for Lifetime Contribution to Czech Economic Science, a lecture by the award recipient, and the announcement of the Best Czech Female Economist in the Kateřina Šmídková Award. The event will also honor young talents in the Young Economist competition. Parallel sessions will showcase individual presentations. “Each contribution is assigned a discussant who will prepare a peer review,” adds Professor Fischer.

A special highlight is a dedicated section for high school teachers of economics, business, and social sciences. This section, uniquely conducted in Czech, is designed to engage secondary education educators.

The Importance of VŠE’s Partnership with the Czech Economic Society

VŠE not only hosts the conference but also serves as its general partner, thereby supporting economic research and education. “There were discussions about rotating the conference among various universities, but it has consistently been held in Prague at VŠE. The partnership is long-term and robust,” explains Professor Fischer, who also serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics at VŠE. This collaboration allows VŠE to showcase its facilities and welcome leading figures in Czech economics to its campus.

Fostering Plurality of Opinions and Academic Freedom

Fostering the plurality of opinions and open discussions is crucial for the development of economics, according to Professor Fischer. “It’s important that exchanges of ideas are conducted respectfully and objectively,” he emphasizes. Within CES, maintaining professional and non-personalized debates is considered essential.

A Platform for Young Economists in the Local Job Market

This year’s CES conference will introduce a platform to bridge young researchers with academic institutions seeking new talent. “As a dean, I often receive inquiries about candidates willing to work outside of Prague, for example in cities like Jihlava, Olomouc, or Ostrava,” says Professor Fischer. The goal of this platform is to connect aspiring academics with potential employers and facilitate their career advancement.
